What To Expect

What to expect for your first appointment

The first appointment will be an extra 15 minutes at no cost in order for a Health History and Consent form to be completed. A health history allows Brianna to help create the best treatment plan that is safe for each specific patient. Please be prepared to answer questions regarding any previous injuries or health difficulties. Brianna is working towards becoming an RMT where a short detailed interview before the massage is required by CMTBC and records of the interview are kept. During the interview Brianna will talk about consent, pain scale, draping, your treatment plan, and address any concerns you may have.

First Appointment interview

Brianna will go over your health history, consent and empowerment, pain scale, and draping before the massage. After the pre massage interview is completed Brianna can start the massage.

Consent and Empowerment

You, the patient, always have the right to stop, change, or modify during your massage. You have the right to direct your Treatment Plan. If you have an injury that you don't want touched/ a certain area you don't want worked on, can't lie down on your stomach or prefer to wear clothes during a massage, those are all your rights as a patient. Please communicate with Brianna if you would like to make any changes to your massage plan at any time, it could be before the massage, during the massage or after the massage.

Pain Scale

Brianna works on a pain scale of 1-10. 1 being a light touch and 7 is where someone would start pulling away from touch. 6 is a deep therapeutic breath ( breathable pain ). During a massage it is important to communicate with numbers on the pain scale for some techniques. **Please note, pain is different from pressure. pressure can described as "good", "a little lighter", and other like descriptors. There isn't a need to put pressure on a scale from 1-10.

Draping

Draping is done to ensure the patient's modesty while still allowing the student therapist to massage an area. only the limb, body part being worked on will be undraped and a towel is added in to create a safe barrier. If you have any questions please go over them with Brianna during the pre massage interview.

Your Treatment Plan

A treatment plan is what both you and Brianna will agree on before the massage. If you have any areas of concern, (scars, bruises, etc.) please let her know during your pre massage interview.
